What We Do

For Attorneys

One World Research utilizes a network of highly skilled investigators who can dispatch quickly to almost any location in the world. We provide litigators with the information and evidence they need to win cases—in an efficient, comprehensive and cost-effective manner.

Unlike other investigation firms that are staffed largely by former law enforcement officials, One World Research is composed of public interest lawyers, human rights investigators, and civil rights experts. Staff have a broad range of experience: they have conducted investigations in war zones; surveyed refugee camps; interviewed detainees about detention-related abuses; researched complex human rights issues in urban areas overseas; uncovered illegal activities by government personnel; gathered evidence in death penalty cases; and investigated police and corrections misconduct.

Our investigators have experience locating and interviewing recalcitrant victims and witnesses, conducting surveillance, and obtaining documentary evidence. We have the background and expertise to uncover information not readily available from open sources. Moreover, because investigators are supervised by attorneys, we are able to provide our clients with comprehensive investigative services without the need for extensive oversight.

Specific services include:

  • Locating and interviewing victims, witnesses, relatives, friends, or employers

  • Locating and obtaining information about detainees in U.S. or foreign prisons, including their background and history, the circumstances of their arrest or prosecution, and other relevant info

  • Searching databases, court records, and public documents

  • Conducting asset searches

  • Collecting video, photographic, and physical evidence

  • Preparing quantitative analysis

  • Surveying or sampling discrete populations

  • Documenting institutional discrimination

  • Compiling, cataloging, and preserving evidence for possible future litigation

  • Investigating corruption and other misconduct, including government or jury misconduct in criminal trials

  • Providing surveillance

  • Locating and securing expert witnesses

  • Securing signed declarations and affidavits for use in trial

  • Serving subpoenas

  • Testifying at trial

  • Conducting general research on any topic

For Advocacy Organizations, Foundations, Non-Profits

One World Research staff have worked in a variety of settings in the public and private sectors, including in local and federal governmental institutions, international governmental institutions such as the United Nations, advocacy organizations, foundations, and non-profits. Our staff has in-depth knowledge and experience in a number of areas, from international human rights to domestic issues such as criminal justice, education, and health care.

For advocacy organizations and non-profits, One World Research provides consulting services on all aspects of operations; including:

  • Identifying substantive areas that fit within the organization's mission and goals, and designing programs within those substantive areas

  • Identifying partners and consultants to implement programs

  • Conducting field research and writing reports on a variety of topics

  • Designing and implementing advocacy strategy with the media, governmental entities, and private actors (such as business actors)

  • Consulting on identifying sources of funding

For foundations, One World Research can help by strategizing programs to meet the foundation’s funding goals, and helping to identify potential recipients of funding, monitoring and evaluating programs and/or organizations that receive funding, and assessing internal operations, including monitoring field offices and staff where necessary.

For Governments and International Institutions

One World Research staff can provide an important resource to governmental and inter-governmental bodies that do not have the necessary staff to implement a particular project, or who need an independent entity to carry-out an internal investigation, or to assess the effectiveness and integrity of programs or resource allocations. We can also provide trainings on investigation techniques and other field research methods.

For Media Clients

For film or television projects, our international experience allows us to provide consultations to help producers, directors, and crew recreate the look and feel of countries in Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, and South Asia. We also help with the logistics of filming in remote locations. One World Research also provides investigative and consulting services for filmmakers and journalists—by helping to locate hard-to-locate persons and arranging interviews, and by providing information and expert analysis on military, law enforcement, and intelligence-gathering activities (activities of CIA and FBI as well as foreign intelligence and law enforcement agencies), humanitarian operations (non-profits and charities, the United Nations), and issues relating to human rights, the laws of war, and refugee issues.

For Investors, Banks, Corporations and Corporate Watch-Dog Groups

One World Research can provide assistance to clients who need to gauge possible corporate involvement in human rights abuses or investigate other possible corporate misconduct. We can investigate labor practices affecting workers’ rights, analyze links to government officials or security forces involved in human rights abuses, investigate claims of waste or fraud, and conduct other research on misconduct. One World Research also offers assistance to corporate clients who seek to gauge their compliance with domestic and international human rights standards relating to labor, security, or environmental issues.
